Who Are We
The Texas A&M Weightlifting team exists as an A&M student organization to further the sport of weightlifting in Aggieland as well as educate and bring together like-minded students so they can grow and excel as a team. Founded in 2014 by then-graduate student
Michael Bingaman, the team began humbly with 7 lifters but quickly surpassed the 40-plus-lifter mark within 3 months of existence. Before the first school year had ended, the team had numerous lifters qualify for University Nationals as well as one qualify for USA Weightlifting’s National Championships, the biggest and most prestigious weightlifting competition hosted by the United States.
The team is made up of individuals of all skill levels and from all backgrounds. We have brand new lifters, CrossFitters, national qualifiers, past-powerlifters, long-time competitors, former high school athletes, full-time weightlifters, former college athletes, and those just looking to learn a little more about the sport. Everyone is welcome—we’ll meet you wherever you are as a lifter, as an athlete, and as a person. Our programming is written by an experienced weightlifting coach and our practices are challenging but always fun. On top of our regularly-scheduled practices, you can count on get-togethers, dinners, hangouts, Big Event, trips, as well as a number of other opportunities to spend time with your teammates. If you’re looking to get into the lifelong sport of weightlifting as well as build lasting relationships and rock awesome TAMUW gear, it’s time you gave us a shout.
